Heavy Goods Vehicles Using the Lane as a Cut Through, 23rd August

I would respectfully ask Cheshire West and Chester Council to consider introducing a 7.5-tonne HGV restriction on Birch Heath Lane, except for access, together with appropriate advance signage directing through HGV traffic onto a more suitable route. Birch Heath Lane is not, in my view, suitable for use by heavy goods vehicles as a through-route, having regard to its width, alignment and residential character. An “except for access” restriction would preserve legitimate deliveries and access to properties while preventing unnecessary through movements by HGVs. I would therefore be grateful if the Highway Authority could formally assess the suitability of Birch Heath Lane for such a restriction and advise whether it can be progressed.

Inappropriate Speed Limit, 22nd August

I respectfully request that Cheshire West and Chester Council undertake a formal review of the current 50 miles an hour speed limit on Birch Heath Lane. My concern is that this speed limit permits vehicles to approach the entrance to a 20 miles an hour village environment at a speed which may be incompatible with road safety objectives. I would be grateful if the Council could explain the engineering justification for retaining a 50 mph limit on this approach and confirm whether alternative limits have been assessed in accordance with DFT guidance. In particular, I ask that measured vehicle speeds, including median and 85th percentile speeds, the proximity of the 20 mile an hour limit, and the safety of vulnerable road users, be taken into account.

Dangerous peak-hour commuter rat-running and structural road overloading – Birch Heath Lane, Christleton, 14th August

This is a formal safety and infrastructure report regarding the severe, unsustainable volume of discretionary cut-through traffic using Birch Heath Lane, Christleton.For years, peak-hour commuters have used this narrow residential lane as an unchecked bypass route to avoid the A41 and A51 networks. The road is structurally unsuitable for this volume of high-speed transit, creating an active and dangerous environment for local pedestrians, cyclists, and residents.This ongoing gridlock directly contradicts the traffic safety and village protection mandates established in the Christleton & Littleton Neighbourhood Plan. Standard complaints have failed to yield results.We require Cheshire West and Chester Council Highways to urgently log this issue and schedule a formal traffic volume assessment. Physical infrastructure interventions—such as entry chicanes, build-outs, or access-only restrictions—must be evaluated immediately to deter this strategic rat-running and protect the lane.

It’s nearly 10pm and the roundabout is not lit up. Last night there was a crash at this time where a car ended up in the middle of the roundabout. I would suggest it was due to lack of lighting. It is a bad road with dual carriages joining and is dark. Lights should be on

Vehicles regularly park on the junction causing an obstruction, 19th July

Vehicles regularly park on the corner of this junction, often within a very short distance of the bend. This significantly reduces the space available for vehicles turning into and out of the road. Cars, vans and larger vehicles are frequently forced to take a much wider line or wait for oncoming traffic before completing the turn. This creates a potential safety hazard and obstructs the free flow of traffic. I have attached photographs showing the issue and the impact on vehicles using the junction.

Every street light gone, 17th July

Our street is set back from the road separated by a park, it only has 3 street lights and all 3 are gone. Our road is pitch black, it is unsafe for people to walk down and the other night I caught some guy playing with himself in the park. I scared him off but with our road being completely unlit and pitch black he was taking advantage and from what I seen he knew we couldn't identify him. My wife and several women work late shifts and have to walk back a now extremely dangerous road due to 3 bulbs. If anything happens I will be talking to the local paper, I have already tried to report this about a month ago.
