Unauthorised no parking signs on public road
Reported via mobile anonymously at 17:19, Sunday 9 August 2026
Sent to Leeds City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9921414.
I wish to make a formal complaint regarding “No Parking” signs that have recently been placed on the wall of a property at Poole Square, LS15 7HF, by the new owner of the property. The road in question is a public highway, and the signs appear to have been installed by a private individual without any clear indication that they have been authorised by Leeds City Council or the relevant highway authority.
The signs are causing considerable confusion for residents, visitors and other road users, as they give the impression that the property owner has the authority to impose a parking restriction on a public road. I understand that parking restrictions and traffic signs on public highways are subject to legal requirements and cannot simply be imposed by an individual without the appropriate authority.
I therefore request that Leeds City Council investigate this matter and confirm whether these “No Parking” signs have been authorised in any way. If they have not been authorised, I ask that the Council takes appropriate action to ensure that they are removed and that the property owner is advised that they cannot create or imply private parking restrictions on a public highway.
I would also appreciate confirmation of whether any Traffic Regulation Order, parking restriction or other lawful authority exists in relation to the signs or the section of road concerned. This situation is causing unnecessary confusion and concern among residents, and I would be grateful if the Council could investigate it as soon as possible.
Please provide me with a written response confirming the outcome of your investigation and any action that will be taken
