Failed manhole cover and severe safety hazard
A manhole cover on the public footway has structurally failed and cracked entirely down the middle, as highlighted in the attached photo (image_59d026.jpg). The damaged and uneven surface not only creates a severe trip hazard but also poses a significant risk of collapsing entirely if stepped on.
This route is heavily utilized by parents and children walking to and from both Our Lady’s School and Beacon School nearby, alongside other local residents. Given the high volume of vulnerable foot traffic in this specific area, a complete failure of this cover could result in a very serious injury.
I would be extremely grateful if Buckinghamshire Highways, or the relevant utility company, could inspect the site urgently and arrange for the cover to be replaced before the structure gives way completely or a pedestrian is hurt.

Almost all manhole covers have some form of identification on them, and it is likely that the manhole cover is owned by a utility company, who are legally responsible for maintaining it.
This report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection within the next 10 working days and if it is found to be the responsibility of Buckinghamshire Highways we will take the appropriate action. If, however, it is found to be the responsibility of the utility company we will report the issue to them, but please note we have no control regarding how long it will take to be fixed by the utility company.
