Wrong road markings at roundabout, left and right but no straight ahead (to carry on Newham Way)

Reported in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 03:39, Fri 3 March 2017

Sent to Middlesbrough Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 990272.

Travelling from Stainton Way onto Newham Way then at first roundabout near bus station you have the option of turning left onto Dalby Way or to carry on straight across and remain on Newham Way or a lot of local people including myself turn right to come back upon yourself to go onto Gunnergate Lane. There is often confusion between drivers travelling straight over and turning right (to get to Gunnergate Ln). But very recently the road markings leading to the roundabout have changed. The new markings do NOT have a Straight arrow to go straight across. It is very dangerous now and is certainly confusing drivers. I stood and watched there yesterday 27/02/2017 and saw several near misses and even road rage by two drivers who had a near miss.

  • The council do not see anything wrong with these road markings. Yet if you approach this roundabout from the opposite direction the road markings contradict these markings because there is a straight ahead arrow in one lane. Everyone I have spoke to agree the new marking is wrong. There was one very opinionated lady who disagreed via Facebook but she is the only one.
