Updates

  • I am writing on behalf of Corston Parish Council according to Section 215 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and Section 154 of the Highways Act 1980 regarding an overgrown hedge that has grown wild and is partially blocking a PROW.

The PROW concerned is Reference BA9/8 and it is partially blocked by overhanging brambles along approximately half its length. The hedge is growing in the boundary of the adjacent residential property 2 Shorts Cottages, Corston. The hedge is in Corston Conservation Area.

To date there have been 2 minor injuries caused by the brambles. Many are at eye level and as the PROW is used by many of the elderly residents in the village there is a risk of more serious injury. The hedge is also in Corston Conservation Area

The property has a complex ownership (currently in Trusteeship) and is currently administered by Stone King, Bath acting as a Trustee.

The problem has existed for several years, but obviously becomes more of a issue during the summer growing season.

Recent emails and a visit to to Stone King on behalf of the Corston Parish Council have remained unanswered

The Parish Council would be grateful if in accordance with the Sections mentioned above you either order the landowner to maintain the hedge or arrange for it to be done by BANES council itself.

    Kind regards

    Julian French

    Clerk, Corston Parish Council
