A pothole in pavement problem

Injury Date 24th June 2026 - 9.50am
Cheltenham GL50 1DB - Pedestrian area adjacent pedestrian crossing at junction of High Street, North Street and Clarence Street.
Hole in tarmac edge next to group of loose rocking slabs caused trip and extensive injury to whole right hand knee hip and shoulder with significant internal bleeding to the right side breast initially advised by hospital required emergency operation.
Referred by Cheltenham General to Gloucester Royal Hospital Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit ward 5B for further investigations. Codine and Morphine medication for the breast pain now very swollen and extremely badly blackened and bruised.
The whole process was very very stressful and exhausting especially in the heatwave temperatures which caused further fatigue, anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed through no fault of my own.
I have supporting photographs of the injuries and detailed report from the breast clinic consultant.
Thirlestaine Breast Centre confirmed my breast implant had not ruptured and no emergency surgery necessary - the 4cm hepatoma would be absorbed over time.
I have pictures of the defective slabs which demonstrates a raised edge of 3cm when tipped by footfall of the person ahead with group of rocking slabs beyond.
I have discovered there are numerous records of rocking/tipping/raised slabs in this area and on the Gloucestershire Byways “FixMyStreet” web site 9th June being the most recent prior to my accident - noted this as fixed but clearly did not check any of the other slabs.
As of yesterday, all the slabs in the accident area have been marked with a white paint mark presumably indicating that they have been reported and scheduled for correction - sadly all too late for me!

This report has now been passed to the Highways team for assessment.
If repair work is required, it will either be classed as urgent or will be put into a planned programme of works to ensure it is repaired as efficiently as possible.
In some cases a temporary repair will be needed, to make the area safe, then engineers will return to make a permanent repair.
An update on the issue will be provided.
