• As per the LBB Tree Management Strategy, we do not prune trees interfering with utility cables or phone lines. Our policy is based on the 1984 Telecommunications Act whereby service providers are obligated to maintain their network in good working condition using the monthly fees customers pay. In the case of phone cables, please contact OpenReach directly. In the case of power cables, contact UKPN directly.

  These companies are responsible for the repair and upkeep of their cable network including pruning back of street trees. They have specialist utility arboriculture teams to work near these lines which may involve the temporary disconnection of services.

  The LBB tree surgeon contractors do not clear branches or vegetation or work around any type of overhead cables.

• Large, mature trees are an essential element of residential neighbourhoods delivering important ecological benefits in the urban environment where they are needed the most. Especially large mature trees with large crowns (or branch canopies) offer LBB Residents many benefits including improved air quality by the production of oxygen and the removal of pollution particulates from the air, improved human health and well-being, temperature reduction in hot periods through their shade, provision of important habitats for birds, fungi, insects, and other species that would otherwise be unable to exist in the urban environment. They also add to the aesthetic/amenity value of the street scene and even increase properties values and can reduce air conditioning costs. • Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy Trees – London Borough of Bromley

  Bromley Council will not prune or remove trees in relation to the following: • Branches overhanging property boundaries or buildings • Lack of direct or indirect sunlight • Where a tree is thought be too tall, wide, large, or old • Branches and/or limbs in physical contact with telephone wires or power wires • Interference with solar panels or satellite, TV, or other media reception • Leaf fall • ANY Fruit or Seed Problems including but not limited to cherry and apple fruits, winged “helicopter” seeds, cotton covered seeds etc. • Problems associated with pollen • Excreta, mess, sap, or staining caused by insects or birds • Obstruction of the view from house windows, gardens, balconies etc • Shedding of small twigs which is considered normal, especially if they are dead or have been clipped by squirrels. Nor will we remove leaf and branch debris at the base of a tree which protect the tree from lawn mowers, strimmers and dogs

  The situation will be reviewed cyclically as part of our programme of tree condition surveys and safety inspections.

Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. The situation will be reviewed cyclically and any required action will be addressed within a future works programme.
