Taxi deliberately obstructing pedestrian/cycle path

Reported via desktop in the Car parking category anonymously at 10:19, Tuesday 7 July 2026

Not reported to council

Issue: A vehicle was parked across the segregated pedestrian/cycle path, blocking both the pedestrian and cycle sides, despite several empty designated parking bays being available nearby.

Why this matters: The path is physically separated into pedestrian and cycle sections. A vehicle parked across it forces pedestrians and cyclists into the main carriageway to get around it, and opening doors into either lane creates a direct collision risk with no buffer space.

Relevant Highway Code rules: Rule 240 — parking on a cycle track or footway is prohibited. Rule 243 — vehicles must not obstruct cycle facilities except when forced to by stationary traffic (not the case here — bays were available). Rule 62 — the pedestrian side remains a footway, not a parking space.
