Sunken inspection covers

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 11:09, Friday 3 July 2026

Sent to Norfolk County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9726898.

In the roadway outside 7-9 Croft Lane there is a sunken stop valve cover marked with a blue cross, presumably for remedial work. About 5 meters away to the South and in the middle of the road is an much larger inspection chamber cover that is sinking badly and is loose, so that traffic passing over it causes a clanking sound. This will only get worse. Can it be repaired at the same time?

Updates

  • PLEASE HELP (if you haven't already)! If this was Lincolnshire, then Lincolnshire County Council would now be providing prompt, comprehensive, and publicly-available updates to this report, right here on the FixMyStreet website, for everybody to see. Unfortunately, Norfolk County Council don't do that (and they even try to discourage people from actually using FixMyStreet)! Please SIGN THE PETITITION, to urge Norfolk County Council to start collaborating with FixMyStreet, in the same way as Lincolnshire County Council is doing (as well as other places, e.g. Oxfordshire)! PETITION WEB ADDRESS: https://c.org/ Nd7gcrX4Bk (A big thankyou to everybody who has signed the petition so far. We've already got over 490 signatures, but let's keep going, to really make an impact on make Norfolk County Council!)

  • This was originally reported over a month ago. Croft Lane is currently closed to through traffic, because of a burst water main. When they re making good the hole they've dug down to repair the main would be an ideal opportunity to fix these covers.
