Bromsberrow Pumping Station - Materials Management Plan

I hope you are well. I am writing on behalf of Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB), a civil engineering design and build contractor, who are carrying out essential improvement works at Bromsberrow pumping station (nearest postcode: HR8 1NY; National Grid Reference: SO737332) on behalf of statutory undertaker Severn Trent.

Bromsberrow pumping station requires the construction of a new water storage tank to fulfil requirements under a new Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) notice. MMB have been commissioned to design a new 2Ml operational volume twin cell bending tank, effectively replacing the current tank with a very small operational capacity. The scope of works include:
• Design and installation of a new GRP twin cell storage tank system, providing an operational capacity of 1000 m³ including both the cells.
• Decommissioning and mothballing of the existing twin cell tank, which is to remain in situ. No demolition works are to be undertaken as part of this scope.
• Design and installation of a dechlorination chamber on the proposed combined washout/overflow pipeline. The chamber shall incorporate a sampling weir to facilitate operational sampling and compliance monitoring.
• Design and installation of new process pipework and associated valves, including but not limited to:
o DN450 combined overflow/washout pipeline and DN150 washout pipeline.
o DN450 inlet pipeline, tapering to DN400 for final connection to the new GRP twin-cell blending tank.
o DN400 outlet pipeline, tapering to DN600 downstream of the flow combination from both cells.
• Execution of all necessary landscaping and vegetation management works to facilitate construction and integrate the new assets into the surrounding environment.
• Provision and construction of footpaths at required locations to ensure safe and compliant access across the proposed installation.

Excavations will be taking place within Severn Trent’s operational boundary, where the excavated material is intended to be reused to backfill structures once they have been constructed, as well as filling embankments around the new reservoir. All within the site boundary. The intended reuse of material will be regulated under a Materials Management Plan (MMP), in line with the CL:AIRE development industry waste code of practice. Once the MMP has been completed, this will be formally signed off by a Qualified Person (QP) who will complete the relevant declaration.

This email is a request for confirmation that there are no objections to this method of work and that we are adopting the appropriate steps to regulate this anticipated reuse of material.
