Broken tree needs pruning

Reported via mobile in the Young Tree Requires Maintenance category by Tom Salter at 19:23, Tuesday 9 June 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9590808.

Some vandals recently snapped the tree. However, a neighbour decided to try to rescue the tree by propping it up. Seems to have worked, because 4 weeks later the tree is still alive!

Long term though it probably won't survive if it's not pruned. The snap will likely get mould or an infection. Given the tree is still living and root system seems fine, it just needs pollarding below the break so it can sprout a new trunk. Please don't dig it up though! This tree can go on to flourish

  • Thank you for saving the tree, which is a similar method to grafting of stems often used in the production of fruit trees. Works have been issued to the contractor to provide additional bamboo canes which will be attached to the stem to provide additional support to the weakened stem and to adjust the trees planting equipment. Hopefully, both damaged sections will fuse together slowly over time.
