Hazard due to vegetation blocking street light on Cotswold Way
Reported via desktop in the Street light fault category anonymously at 12:09, Tuesday 9 June 2026
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 5 days, 22 hours, 14 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 9587473.
At this location, the gradient of the Cotswold Way changes from slight to steep with steps. A lamp-post stands opposite the telegraph pole, at the junction with the side path towards Mountain Ash. Walking from Bath towards Weston at night, I find that the upper section is well illuminated. At the top of the steep, stepped section I am plunged into darkness. Eyes barely have time to adjust to a drastic change of illumination, right at the point when you need to be aware of the steeper gradient and watch for the first step. It is hazardous for a local who knows the route. Someone less familiar with it is at serious risk of falling forwards downhill. The reason for this situation is that tree branches have been allowed to grow almost the full width of the path, casting a sudden, deep shadow at the worst possible place. I think the offending foliage is growing from inside The Retreat.
