Tree needs pruning/shaping

I report this tree annually and am always told it’s healthy. This is correct but the tree is getting larger and does require some pruning and shaping. It creates a lot of debris that I tidy throughout the year especially when the fruit drops in Autumn It regularly gets hit by dustcarts and delivery vans It also blocks a lot of night light from the street light opposite Last year I had an attempted vehicle theft from my property and would really appreciate a considerate response to my request to have the tree pruned/shaped and reduced in size to improve it aesthetically and keep it healthy Thank you in anticipation

  • Thank you for your enquiry. We work in accordance with a tree strategy (tree-management-strategy-2023-to-2027 (bromley.gov.uk) which defines what we are allowed to undertake in terms of works to a tree, trees are assessed for structural defects and pest and disease which in this instance there are none. There is often a misconception that they require regular pruning/shaping, but trees are considered self-optimising superorganisms, we assess trees individually taking into consideration the characteristics of the species and when works are raised we take into consideration how the tree will adapt/react to pruning as we are creating wounds which is heavily reliant on the tree having sufficient energy reserves within to occlude wounds otherwise it often opens up the tree to pest and disease. To crown reduce trees can often lead to the formation of weakness in a trees structure, the tree will attempt to compensate for loss of energy potential used to support itself by creating new shoots that slowly develop into branches but are weakly formed/attached. We do not prune trees which are considered overly large and leaf/fruit fall is termed a seasonal inconvenience which the benefits trees bring to an urban environment outweighs the negatives.

    It is noted the tree has a low crown and inconsequence works, estimated to be completed within 28 days have been issued to the contractor to crown lift the tree which will improve pavement and road clearances.
