Cars affected by bird poo

There is restrictive parking in this road anyway because many of the houses do not have driveways. Where we do park on the road, the trees overhang the pavement and road. Unfortunately, many birds sitting in these trees and all the cars that park under them at least the overhanging bits get poo on them. i’m not talking about just one bit of poo but lots and lots of it. Because of this hardly anyone ever parks there and most of the cars park on Barnhill Avenue. is it possible to have these trees pruned?

  • Thank you for your enquiry. It is noted that the maples adjacent to the junction with Barnhill avenue have low canopies and in consequence works estimated to be completed within 28 days are raised to lift the low crowns of the trees. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy (tree-management-strategy-2023-to-2027 (bromley.gov.uk) the Council will not prune trees in relation to the following: • Excreta caused by insects or birds. Honeydew (aphid excreta) and bird droppings are not recognised in law as a ‘legal nuisance’ and therefore does not justify removal or pruning of a tree. Hazards on the footway can be addressed by reporting these through Fix My Street. Residents can manage this problem through regular car washing, covering their cars or parking in alternative locations.
