Grass on junior football pitch dangerously long – pitch unplayable for children’s matches
Reported via mobile in the Grass needs cutting category anonymously at 21:23, Wednesday 6 May 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9411567.
The grass on Harvington’s 9 a side football pitch has become excessively long and was in a very poor condition during children’s matches played last Sunday. The surface was so overgrown that the ball could barely roll properly, making it extremely difficult for the children to play safely or enjoy the game.
This pitch is used regularly by local grassroots youth football teams and supports a large number of children and families in the community each weekend. At its current length, the grass is affecting both the safety and quality of play, with increased risk of trips, awkward movement and potential injury.
With more fixtures scheduled this coming weekend, we would be very grateful if the pitch could be cut as a priority before matches take place. The current condition risks games being heavily disrupted or potentially unplayable for the children.
Thank you for your help and support in maintaining these important community sports facilities.

Thank you for the update. However, this response does not provide any indication of when the pitch will actually be cut, and this has unfortunately become an ongoing issue over several seasons rather than a one-off maintenance problem.
This is a heavily used grassroots youth football pitch used by children every weekend. The current condition of the surface is not just inconvenient — it is becoming unsafe. In addition to the excessively long grass, there are now large tufts of uneven growth and multiple holes across the pitch which are causing children to trip and fall when running at pace.
Last weekend the grass was so long that the ball could barely move properly during matches, significantly affecting the quality and safety of play. Coaches, parents and children are increasingly concerned about the condition of a council-managed sports facility that is relied upon by the local community every week.
Could the council please confirm:
* Whether the pitch will be cut before this weekend’s scheduled fixtures * What the planned maintenance frequency is for this site * Whether the wider condition of the playing surface (including holes and uneven tufts) can also be inspected
We appreciate the work of the grounds teams, but the current maintenance schedule does not appear sufficient for a regularly used youth football pitch.
