Heavy traffic through hoddesdon town centre past the library.
Reported anonymously at 22:36, Sat 10 December 2016
Sent to Broxbourne Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 940246.
The 'town centre bypass' was put in place to direct 'through' traffic from the town centre primarily for pedestrian/shoppers convenience and safety. The '1170 bypass' had a speed limit of 40mph to encourage motorists to use the bypass. Inexplicably the speed limit has now been reduced to 30mph. As a result, motorists now find it quicker to go past Barclays - past the Library, and down Burford street ! Shoppers/pedestrians are now faced with a continuous stream of impatient fast traffic all day long ! It must be now quicker this way or they wouldn't do it. Cause and effect. Please put the bypass back to its designed speed of 40mph, and 'traffic calming' ridges outside the library, so us pedestrians can shop with safety...please.

The investigator said the day he went to Hoddesdon to investigate was not a typical day and will have to go again ...when ? Will update when again contacted. Not sure he understands that complaint is not about speed ...it is CHANGE to the traffic flow pattern through the town caused by imposing different speed restrictions !

Last correspondence said they had sent a person to look at it...but on the 'wrong day' ! School holiday and market day ! Nothing more heard since then . Must give them a chance ... but how long do I wait. ?

'Through' traffic is still heavy through this partly pedestrianised area. Previous correspondence with the person responsible indicated he was not able to understand what is going on here, and never followed it up. After six months, I am calling time on this issue, and will now follow this through my local council representative.
