The zebra crossing placement doesn’t alleviate the difficulty crossing the road with school children.

This was the closest category I could find for this issue so apologies if this doesn’t reach the right place - please highlight to the office responsible for the zebra crossing placement if so.
The new zebra crossing was intended (for one purpose) to make it easier for families and school children at St Andrew’s School to cross the road in the morning. There are two zebra crossings parallel to the new zebra crossing, and both are within about 50 meters. What the new zebra crossing achieves is it now gives the choice to cross the road towards St Andrew’s School at the bottom of Cavendish Road, or the top of Marlborough Buildings. Crossing the road at either of these places is not safe, and the zebra crossing next to the footgolf course (about 50m away) allows the same choice. The new zebra crossing will now also mean cars will have to be mindful of the zebra crossing at a four way junction, also without solving the issue of the road crossing towards St Andrew’s.
Was the intention for the zebra crossing to be here, or should it have been either at the top of Marlborough Buildings/bottom of Cavendish Road?

The layout of this junction has been debated for decades - traffic lights, mini-roundabout and other solutions have been proposed in the past and it had a big reworking a few years ago which has not really sorted it out.

Thank you for your enquiry and for sharing your concerns regarding the location of the new zebra crossing.
The zebra crossing installed outside the Marlborough Tavern was deliberately positioned to formalise an existing uncontrolled crossing point that was already being widely used by pedestrians. In addition, the location was selected following input and requests from elected local ward members, reflecting community usage and local priorities.
In terms of safety, a Stage 2 Road Safety Audit was undertaken during the design phase of the scheme to ensure that the proposed layout met the required safety standards prior to construction. Now that the scheme has been completed, a Stage 3 Road Safety Audit will also be carried out. This post-construction audit will review how the crossing is operating in practice and identify whether any further measures are necessary to improve safety.
