Massive Lip between paving stone and tarmac resulted in serious fall

On the corner of Cheriton Avenue and Hayesford Park Drive there is a section of tarmac adjacent to paving stones. There is a considerable 'lip' between the level of the paving stones and the tarmac; the tarmac is considerably raised in comparison to the paving stones. This presents danger when attempting to move between the paving stones and the tarmac and is visually challenging to identify so footpath users may not identify the risk.

The attached photo includes a shoe for scale and aims to show the considerable difference in height between the level of the paving stone and the level of the tarmac. The photo was shot almost at ground level as a fair measure.

Recently, a family member did not see the 'lip' and tripped on the edge of the tarmac, resulting in a serious fall with treatment required at an NHS walk in centre. This is extremely dangerous and this would be further heightened at night, during inclement weather, for pedestrians with visual or mobility issues, etc.

Please inspect and resolve this issue before there are any further accidents.

  • Reopening. Have attended site and no work has been completed with the matter unresolved. Please justify your rationale for closing this issue as fixed when it is clearly not. For the third time of asking please provide the SLA for resolution.
