Stratford Road, near junction with Cecil's Yard

Reported via mobile in the Footpath / pavement problem category by F P Wheeler at 12:02, Tuesday 14 April 2026

Sent to Buckinghamshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9291103.

This has been a permanent issue for pedestrians trying to cross Stratford Road near North End square. I have just seen that an elderly man has been injured in the head on Stratford Road close to where I previously requested that a Zebra pedestrian crossing be placed. There is already a dropped kerb for pedestrians coming from North End square to cross Stratford Road near Cecil's Yard but no priority is given to pedestrians to cross there. The Council's reply said, “We have fully investigated this report, however, we have been unable to identify any issues with the road lines or markings in the area plotted on the map.” But this answer ignored the safety issue. Please address this issue with urgent and serious attention.

Updates

  • The report has been passed to the Highway Officer, who will carry out an inspection of the issue within 10 working days, emergency defects will be corrected or made safe at the time of the inspection, if reasonably practicable to do so. In this context, making safe may constitute displaying warning notices, coning‐off or fencing‐off to protect the public from the defect or other suitable action. If the inspection team cannot make safe the defect at the time of inspection, then they will instigate the relevant emergency call procedures to ensure appropriate resources are mobilised to make the defect safe.

There may also be occasions when the issue reported will not be repaired as it has been classified as a minor defect and does not pose any risk to either the safety or the integrity of the highway, these are called minimum recording levels as specified in our Highways Safety Inspection Policy.

  • Thank you for your request for a pedestrian crossing/Installation of a Footway/Footpath

Unfortunately, there are no measures planned at this location currently. Buckinghamshire Council's Transport priority and that of Buckinghamshire's residents is for significant investment to be put into road maintenance, due to the significant budget required to keep the current network suitable for all users. Therefore, there is limited funding available for other new schemes at this time. A crossing/Footway/footpath at this location would not be a current funding priority.

We will however put the request highlighted onto a schemes list which will be considered by colleagues in Highways Development Management if funding becomes available from any development sites in the local area that have local funding attached to the development.

We receive many requests for improvements to many locations across the County and schemes of this nature are costly to implement. We apologise that we are unable to positively action the request at this time but hope the above information confirms Buckinghamshire Councils position.
