Damaged Direction Sign - Cannon Street, Lymington - Top Entrance to Car Park

Reported via desktop in the Street Furniture category anonymously at 13:15, Sunday 12 April 2026

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9279174.

I am writing to report that the directional sign at the top entrance of the Cannon Street car park is damaged.

What3Words: ///fulfilled.lecturers.recount

One of the sign pointers has been snapped in half, and the broken section is completely missing.

The issue has been present for almost three months.

Could you please arrange for a repair or replacement.

Many thanks.

  • Please be aware that this issue and repair remains completely unresolved as of 08/08/2026. I am escalating this matter urgently, as the request has now been marked as "Fixed" twice and updated to "Closed," despite no repairs having taken place.

This panel repair request may have been confused with a previous job to re-erect and straighten the main post after it was damaged during emergency sewerage works by Southern Water. While the work to reset the post was completed, the repair to the broken signpost panel itself was never carried out and has now been outstanding for over 8 months.

This is a critical signpost for the local area, as it provides primary direction for residents and visitors to key locations, specifically Lymington Library and Lymington Town train station. Leaving it damaged creates unnecessary confusion for the public.

Please see the attached photograph taken on 04/08/2026, which confirms that the damage to the signpost panel remains present, as highlighted by the red arrow.

Please reopen this request and arrange for the signpost panel to be repaired as a priority.

  • Thank you for the update.

To ensure people can navigate safely, could you please clarify who owns and is responsible for maintaining and repairing this sign?
