Public Health Risk. Rat infestation and ongoing rubbish issue

Reported via mobile anonymously at 07:37, Sunday 12 April 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9277761.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to formally report a serious and ongoing public health issue caused by persistent rubbish accumulation in my area.

For the past seven years, large amounts of rubbish have regularly been left outside, attracting pests including foxes and rats. Despite the length of time this has been occurring, no effective action has been taken to resolve the situation.

The matter has now escalated to a serious health and safety risk. A rat recently entered my home, and although it has since exited, this incident is extremely concerning. I have video evidence of the rat and can provide this upon request.

This poses a direct risk to my family, particularly my children who play in our garden and have witnessed rats in the area. The presence of rodents in and around residential properties is unacceptable and represents a clear environmental health hazard.

I request that West Northamptonshire Council treat this matter as urgent and take immediate action, including: - Investigating the source of the rubbish - Arranging for its prompt removal - Assessing and addressing the rat infestation - Carrying out an inspection of the area

If this issue is not addressed promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate the matter further.

I look forward to your urgent response.

Thank you!
