No signage in advance that Road Closed

Reported via desktop in the Roads/Highways category anonymously at 16:58, Tuesday 31 March 2026

Sent to Lewisham Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9220379.

There are roadworks by Thames Water at the junction of Hilly Fields Crescent and Tyrwhitt Road which appear ongoing. There are signs saying "Road Closed" from all three directions immediately beside the works. However cars are turning from Crescent Way right into Tyrwhitt Road without any sign to alert them to Road Closure ahead till it is too late. Then having to do U-turns or reverse, or attempt to squeeze past the closure. Has been like this for a few days now.

Updates

  • It's continuous chaos.

  • Turns out there was a sign but the arrow was pointing the wrong way directing traffic towards the closed junction not away from it (perhaps someone mischievously reversed it). I showed a workman and he reversed the arrow to the correct direction. Cars are still not seeing the sign however as it is not very prominent.

  • There is also clearly inadequate signage or no signage further up Tyrwhitt Road as cars are coming up Trywhitt Road from further down and driving into the dead end road closure too.
