Unsecured gate swinging into pavement creating hazard

Reported via mobile anonymously at 11:02, Wednesday 25 March 2026

Sent to Brighton and Hove City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9183999.

A private driveway gate is not secured and swings outward across the public footway, particularly in the wind.

This creates a safety hazard for pedestrians as it moves unpredictably into the walking path. It nearly caused a collision with an elderly pedestrian.

The pavement is narrow at this point, making it difficult to avoid. This appears to be a recurring issue rather than a one-off.

Please can this be investigated and the property owner required to secure or adjust the gate so it does not obstruct the footway.
