Missing change of speed limit terminal signs

Reported via desktop in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 10:10, Sunday 22 March 2026

Sent to Halton Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9162644.

Location: A558 Daresbury Expressway, between Sandymoor roundabout (junction with Pitts Heath Lane / Blackheath Lane) and the A56 Chester Road junction near Sci-Tech Daresbury. Description of issue: There is inconsistent and contradictory speed limit signage along this stretch of the A558, with no clear terminal signage establishing where any change in speed limit occurs. Eastbound (from Sandymoor roundabout toward Chester Road):

No terminal speed limit signs are visible when entering the A558 from the roundabout Approximately 500m after the roundabout, there is a single 40mph repeater sign on the right-hand side There is no preceding terminal signage to establish a 40mph limit at any point

Westbound (from Chester Road toward Sandymoor roundabout):

40mph terminal signs exist on Chester Road before the junction, and at the junctions with Sci-Tech Daresbury and Keckwick Park However, after passing through the Sandymoor roundabout and continuing westbound on the A558, there is a 60mph repeater sign with a speed camera symbol Again, there is no terminal signage establishing a 60mph limit

The problem: In neither direction is there a pair of terminal signs (or even a single terminal sign) indicating a change in speed limit along the A558 itself. Drivers are presented with conflicting repeater signs without any clear point at which the limit changes. This makes it unclear what the legal speed limit actually is on this stretch, and could create difficulties for enforcement.
