Wooden handrail supports at cattle grid failing

Reported in the Road Marking category anonymously at 17:14, Sun 16 October 2016

Sent to Oxford City Council 1 year, 1 month, 16 hours, 21 minutes later

One of the wooden posts supporting the handrail at the cattle grid at the Marston end of the University Parks cycle track is rotting and beginning to fall towards the cattle grid. If it falls onto the cattle grid it could cause a cycling accident.

The gates at the same grid need gate springs to ensure the gates are kept closed when cattle are in the fields. The existing rope loops are often left unfastened by users of the gates.

Updates

  • Condition as previously reported - possibly more problematic now there are cattle in the adjoining fields

I don't really understand why this has to be reported again, Oxfordshire County Council clearly haven't fixed it nine months after the initial report. Hey guys, I pay you the tax, you do the work, yeah?

  • If its keeping cattle in the field, would it not be the farmer's responsibility? Depending on where he wants his cows.

  • Thank you for your enquiry. I have visited the site and assessed the problem that you have identified. Unfortunately it doesn't meet our current intervention criteria so I cannot arrange a repair. We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections.
