Dangerous, longstanding and deteriorating condition of pavement slabs

Reported via iOS in the Pavements/footpaths category by Neil French at 11:21, Sunday 8 March 2026

Sent to Lambeth Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9066842.

This unacceptable pavement condition in Norfolk House Road extends from the junction with Streatham High Road for about 25m alongside the High Road property currently occupied by the charity shop Fara. It has been present for several months now and is currently a serious hazard to the safety of pedestrians - particularly the elderly, including both my wife and I (both in our 80s), who regularly walk this route to local shops and transport. Nearly every paving slab is seriously cracked with many crumbling and displaced causing unevenness, instability and loss of balance. It requires immediate and total replacement before there is a potentially life threatening accident.

Updates

  • I’m extremely upset that this update will not be seen by the Council. Why on earth not???

The Council is the only body that can do anything about putting the necessary repairs in place.

Please tell me what the “Fix My Street” organisation has done since it received my initial report of the unacceptable and dangerous condition of the pavement adjacent to my property.

Had the reverse situation been the case, eg the Council advising me the conditions of my front hedging, walls, overhanging trees or fences posed a danger to the public, it would instruct me to rectify these risks. Failure to do so would lead the Council to instigate the necessary measures and to charge me for the costs involved.

Please pursue, on behalf of the residents, the case for contracting out these repairs and charging the Council accordingly, should it fail to meet the obligation it has to maintain our pavements in a safe and serviceable condition.
