Urgent Safety Concern – Severe Potholes on London Road, Widley

I am writing to formally raise serious safety concerns regarding the deteriorating road surface and multiple potholes along London Road in the Widley area, particularly from around Widley Church through to the roundabout and beyond. As shown in the attached photographs, the carriageway has deteriorated significantly and now presents a clear danger to all road users. The potholes are deep, widespread, and situated within the main running line of traffic. Vehicles, including buses, are being forced to brake sharply or deviate from their lane position to avoid damage, increasing the risk of collision with oncoming traffic, parked vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. This route is regularly used by public service vehicles carrying passengers. Repeated impact with these defects is causing strain and potential damage to suspension, steering, tyres, and wheel alignment. Beyond the financial implications, this presents a genuine safety concern for passengers and drivers. There is also a heightened risk to local residents crossing near the church and bus stops. Drivers attempting to avoid the potholes may unintentionally drift from their normal road position. Cyclists are particularly vulnerable, as striking these defects could easily result in loss of control and serious injury. Given the traffic volume and the presence of pedestrians and public transport on this stretch of road, I must request that this matter is treated as urgent. At the very least, temporary repairs should be undertaken immediately to make the surface safe, followed by permanent reinstatement at the earliest opportunity. This is now a foreseeable and escalating safety risk. I would appreciate confirmation of when remedial works will be scheduled.
