Series of potholes getting worse

Reported via mobile in the Pothole category anonymously at 21:42, Monday 2 March 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9033233.

There were several potholes by the traffic lights / pedestrian crossing which have now stared to merge into fewer much larger ones. In the last week along I have personally seen THREE cars get burst tyres from the sharp edges, a pedestrian hit by a chipping that flew up where she was lucky to escape without serious injury, and a lorry have some of the load come loose because it hit it so hard.

This has been reported before by someone else but OCC closed it saying ‘it doesn’t meet the criteria for repair’ or some such nonsense.

  • Adding to this user’s report my parents live along that road opposite the Burford Lodge and the potholes are not only much worse in terms of damage, but lorrys come hurtling along the A40 (despite it being a 30mph limit but this is NEVER adhered to) and when they hit the potholes it makes an incredible racket, So much so that it often wakes them up ⬆️ n the middle of the night

  • I also reported these potholes (ENQ261083524) but received an email on 25th Feb saying it had been fixed, which it clearly hasn't been. Then received another email 26th Feb saying 'Based on our assessment, the highlighted area does not currently meet the criteria for immediate intervention under our Highway Safety Inspection Policy'. I attach latest photo above (taken Sat 28th Feb) which shows the extent of the holes now and it's hard to understand how this doesn't meet the criteria for repair.

  • These pictures were taken on 25th Feb (the day before OCC say they don’t warrant repair!!). You can see they’ve got worse in the other user’s pictures. OCC please stop fobbing off.

  • There is also another large pothole approximately 4metres past the lights, also on the Eastbound side of the road. It would be sensible to repair this as the same time as the others

  • Due to the delays from OCC this is now much worse and is going to take much more significant repair. It is almost one continuous pothole now

  • Pictures from 25 Mar showing how much worse it is and still no action despite being marked to be fixed. There is also a picture of the rapidly worsening pothole a few metres beyond the largest. This is being caused by by trucks hitting the first crater before the lights an shells bouncing back down and smacking into the road surface.

  • 6 weeks after being 'actioned for fixing' by OCC, and 7 weeks after the first report still no action.

The one by the lights is now pretty much one continuous 8foot long, 3foot wide hole.

The one after the lights in now 2ft long.

  • This has still not been fixed and creates significant disturbance to local residents with the noise of lorries hitting it, in addition to the risk to road users and vehicles. It is w one continuous pothole where the entire road surface is breaking up. It seems to be worse daily.

  • Now 8 weeks since marked ‘for action’. Nothing. Absolute joke, if it wasn’t for the danger posed by the clippings being thrown up, the absolute racket as Lorrie’s go over it, and the literal damage to nearby homes because the ground shakes when HGVs hit i
