Vehicles are routinely mounting the pavement on Villiers Road due to conflicting two-way traffic on a narrow carriageway, creating an ongoing pedestrian safety risk.

Villiers Road, Buckingham – specifically the section running towards West Street / Dipalee Lounge – operates as a two-way street despite a restricted carriageway width that does not safely allow vehicles to pass in opposing directions.
As a result, vehicles are routinely forced onto the pavement to pass oncoming traffic. I monitored this location over multiple periods and observed that approximately 84% of vehicles mount the kerb in some way in order to proceed. This behaviour appears to be systemic rather than exceptional.
The frequency of pavement overrun increases notably during 08:00–08:30, 15:00–15:30, and 17:00–18:30. Two of these periods coincide with times when school-aged children are using the pavements, which significantly increases the level of risk.
This is a highway design and geometry issue involving pavement overrun and pedestrian safety. The current layout leaves drivers with no safe alternative when encountering oncoming vehicles.
A potential traffic management solution to remove vehicle conflict would be to consider a one-way arrangement, with Castle Street operating one-way from Market Hill towards Castle Street, and West Street operating one-way towards Market Square, subject to formal assessment through the Traffic Regulation Order process.
