Traffic light doesn't detect cyclists.

Reported via Android anonymously at 16:13, Sunday 1 March 2026

Sent to Brighton and Hove City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 9022903.

Heading south here the traffic lights won't detect or change for a cyclist approaching. Since cyclists must use the right lane to access the east and west bound cycle lanes there is no phase in which to pass unless a car also approaches the traffic lights to trigger detection. This is a consistent problem at these traffic lights.

Updates

  • Thank you for bringing this to our attention. In the short term, we will install a call button next to the advanced stop line, which should be able to be done within a month or so, depending on supplier lead times. Longer term we will look at installing cycle specific above ground detection, which will call both the left turn and right turn, independently. This involves an upgrade to the Traffic Signal Controller, as well as installing equipment that takes longer to deliver.
