Manhole cover has sank

Reported via iOS in the Potholes category anonymously at 08:14, Tuesday 24 February 2026

Sent to Liverpool City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8985740.

I’ve previously reported this manhole cover 2 years ago. I’ve noted it’s been spray painted several times, but no one actually fixes it. It’s sank, significantly. Your cars suspension takes a proper walloping if you go over it, so everyone tries to avoid it. Sadly it’s located just before where the road widens and the bus stop is located. As such, it’s only a matter of time before some beers to the right, when they should be going left snd there’s a crash. It’s currently spray painted again, but is anything actually going to be done, or is this just a legal limitation tactic?

Updates

  • The council person responsible rang me, told me all about his 32 years in the job and how hard it was to get things like this fixed. I pointed out it’s just a manhole and that it’s been like this for years (which he acknowledged it had) and that it’s not good enough. Since then he’s had a bit of tarmac put round it, but it’s not actually been fixed. The tarmac is wearing out already. He did however genuinely advise me to drive a different route, which is ludicrous.
