Large pot holes
Reported via mobile in the Potholes category anonymously at 01:31, Monday 23 February 2026
Sent to Newport Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8976770.
Location: Broad Street Common, Nash. From the junction at Nash Road through to the end of the common. Coordinates: 51.5612336, -2.9398761 What3Words: ///duck.homes.tigers Message: This is a formal notice to Newport City Council that the entire length of Broad Street Common has reached a state of total structural collapse. This is no longer a matter of individual potholes; the carriageway is fundamentally unfit for purpose and constitutes a severe danger to life and property. I am aware that previous reports regarding this specific stretch have been rejected. This is unacceptable. I have included a What3Words and Co-Ordinates. Let this report serve as a final warning that I am now escalating this matter to my Member of Parliament (MP) to highlight the Council's systemic failure to meet its statutory obligations under Section 41 of the Highways Act 1980. Current Hazards: • Total Surface Disintegration: The road is a continuous gauntlet of deep, sharp-edged craters that are unavoidable. • Severe Vehicle Damage: My car is being subjected to violent mechanical stress daily. I am now keeping all receipts for suspension, tyre, and alignment repairs and will be pursuing the Council for these costs. • Safety Risk: The road is now so dangerous that vehicles are forced into erratic maneuvers to avoid damage, creating a high risk of collisions. Formal Demand: I demand a full, end-to-end inspection of Broad Street Common by the Highways Department. A "patch-and-mend" approach is a waste of taxpayer money; this road requires immediate full resurfacing. The Council has been put on notice. Any future accidents or mechanical failures resulting from this negligence will be met with legal action. I will be sharing this report and the Council’s subsequent response (or lack thereof) with my MP and local media. NCC must now before a serious accident occurs.
