Whole junction surface.
Reported via mobile in the Pothole category by Steve the cyclist at 19:15, Wednesday 18 February 2026
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8950345.
Entire junction from Bucknell approach to traffic light crossing is a pockmarked, post-apocalyptic hellscape - resembling damaged infrastructure bearing the scars of civil conflict.
Multiple enormous potholes, sub-surface ground sag and top surface delamination has rendered this general area of road unusable and highly dangerous to all users, practically those on a bike, as all road users are forced to swerve into the opposite lane in order to avoid injury and damage to their vehicles.
This has been reported so many times before, surely it can be fixed??
Council ref: ENQ261085904

I see from the council comment that they are 'investigating' as of the 18th February 2026. It is now the 20th of March 2026 (one month later) and yet still no comment back from the council with any update. Which is clearly very disappointing. I suspect that, as and when the council DO get around to investigating, the conclusion may be that there are just way too many potholes / bad surface imperfections to try and repair. And that the only real way to fix such a dreadful appalling mess of a road is to completely resurface. Which will cost quite a chunk of money that the highways department may well say they do not have. True as that could be, that cannot just mean that the local authority can just 'walk away' from the issue. Do we need to wait for some kind of bad accident / bad insurance claim to occur before it is repaired ?

This whole section of the road needs to be resurfaced asap you are not able to drive on this section of the road anymore it is very dangerous I can’t believe how long it is taking the council to come out and fix this you need to also think about motorcycles going along this road if they hit any of these potholes that are like craters it would cause them to come off their bike and have a serious accident this isn’t acceptable to be left in this condition and it’s not fair on Ardley village please can this repair of the road be marked for urgent attention

One suspects that the council will bleat that they 'do not have the funds' to resurface this section of road - and this may well be very true, unfortunately. However, the irony is that it's the same council that has allowed this stretch of road to deteriorate (due to lack of regular maintenance...) to such a point that it is now going to be much more expensive to resurface. What was the old saying ? 'A Stitch In Time Saves Nine'.....
