Residents have nowhere to park but in the public layby right outside our houses. The majority of residents are elderly and some are disabled. I am a prosoner in my own home at weekends, not daring to go out in my car because the minute you drive off, the space is taken. There is absolutely nowhere else to park in the vicinity that is not privately owned land. It is especially bad when Blenheim Palace has an event, we stand no chance at all of parking anywhere near our homes. The police have already been involved in fights over parking spaces this year. I am sometimes so worried about getting home from work and finding no spaces that I have to consider moving away. My neighbours all feel the same way. I have had to drive round in circles for hours in the past. The road is also so very busy that whenever you go to open your car door you take your life in your hands at certain times of the day. My cat was run over and killed by a speeding vehicle only months after moving in. There is no traffic calming measures and I assume that this is because its a main route for emergency services. There is no pedestrian crossing at our end of the village even though the village is expanding. Some vehicles drive in excess of 80 mph in the evening. The layby in question is outside the only houses without driveways and parking facilities, this seems a coincidence, was the layby originally built for the poor residents of the Cottsway Cottages and if so, why has it been taken away. We really do have a bad predicament here and it can only be improved by giving us marked residents parking or neighbours have told me that in the past there was a suggestion that our very long front gardens be utilised by building a residents service/parking area. Is this a possibility? Why should passing traffic and people that dont want the hassle of queueing to get into Blenheim have the convenience of parking outside our homes while I drive round on this treachorous road fighting back the tears of frustration. I cant believe in this day and age of motor vehicle travel that consideration has not been given to those in older properties without parking facilities. We have the layby so why cant we have the sole use of it with clearly marked spaces for residents only. I look forward to hearing from you with an explanation and a possible solution that may improve our very poor quality of life here in Bladon, the village and I use the term loosely as it couldnt be less like a village, just a place that is used as a short cut or to get the tourists into Blenheim. Residents appear to be an after thought who are not considered at all. Where did community mindedness go?
