Deep pothole growing quickly

Reported via desktop in the Potholes & road surface category anonymously at 22:48, Tuesday 10 February 2026

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8889367.

This pothole appeared quickly in the site of a previous repair. It was marked for repair after the first photo but not repaired - the marking paint wore off. It is about 15 cm deep and has roughly doubled in area in two weeks. The surrounding material appears weak and likely also to break up. Many vehicles are driving through it since the road is very narrow (~4.5 m). The depth poses a risk of tyre/ wheel damage, and the loose chippings are a risk to pedestrians and two-wheelers.

  • The repairs were not good enough. You can't just drop some tarmac in the hole and hope for the best. The holes are opened back up again now causing damage to wheels and swerving in a dangerously thin stretch of road where traffic already struggles to avoid oncoming traffic.

  • Here are some photos of the current state of the holes and traffic having to go in the middle of the road to avoid them

  • Photos posted earlier today relate to nearby potholes at 15 and 17 Charlton Road; see other reports.

The repair to the original deep pothole at 21 Charlton Road is holding well so far. However the double yellow lines have not yet been re-instated. These would help draw attention to the narrow width of the road.
