🚧 Urgent Highway Defect Report – Pothole Location: Junction of Brading Avenue & Whych Lane Junction Type of defect: Deep pothole / failed road surface Severity: High – immediate safety risk to vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and bus traffic Description of Issue There is a large and deteriorating pothole at the junction of Brading Avenue and Whych Lane. The surrounding carriageway is breaking up, and the hole is holding standing water, making it difficult to judge depth and increasing the likelihood of vehicle damage or loss of control. The defect appears to be worsening and is already impacting the structural integrity of the road surface around it. Safety Concerns Risk of tyre, suspension, and wheel damage to vehicles Increased hazard for cyclists and pedestrians Standing water conceals the depth of the pothole Potential for sudden swerving or braking, raising collision risk Particular concern for buses and heavy vehicles using this junction regularly Given the location at a junction and the size of the defect, this presents a significant and immediate road safety hazard. Requested Action I respectfully request: An urgent site inspection Temporary make-safe measures if immediate permanent repair is not possible Full permanent repair of the damaged carriageway as soon as practicable Photos are attached for reference. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Kind regards, Wayne Littlejohn Health & Safety Representative First Solent
