Large branches breaking off and falling into garden

Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 09:00, Sunday 8 February 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8864158.

I was told in 2022 that the tree had been pruned (not that I saw this happen) and that they should be every 3 years. Therefore the tree should have been pruned last year which I haven’t seen evidence of. We now have large branches snapping and falling into the garden which is dangerous.. I can see some other branches hanging. I would like the tree to be checked and pruned and branches overhanging my property to be cut back to avoid and accident.

  • Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy Trees – London Borough of Bromley

Council will not prune or remove trees in relation to the following: • Branches overhanging property boundaries or buildings • Lack of light • Where a tree is thought be too tall, large, or old • Interference with solar panels or satellite, TV, or other media reception • Branches and/or limbs in physical contact with telephone wires or power wires • Leaf fall • Fruit fall • Shedding of small twigs. Nor will we remove leaf and branch debris at the base of a tree which serves to protect roots and protects the tree from lawn mowers, strimmers and dogs • Problems associated with pollen • Excreta caused by insects or birds • Obstruction of the view from house windows, gardens, balconies etc

The situation will be reviewed cyclically as part of our programme of tree condition surveys and safety inspections.

  • Heavy branches falling from a tree into my garden is a health and safety issue. If that had hit someone it would have caused serious injury.. The branch that came down was heavy. I am on blood thinners so if it had hit me I would have had to go to A&E.

  • As previously stated, some small twigs falling is normal for trees, a officer will inspect the tree in due course and raise works if required.

  • Small twigs? That’s a branch, if you could be bothered to send someone round you could pick it up and feel the weight. If that had hit me or a child it would have caused injury. I would like to know a timeline/ date for when the officer will inspect the tree please. I will also contact my local councillors as I am fed up with the absolute lack of customer service or regard for safety
