5+ metre long gouged section of carriageway
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category by Alan Darbyshire at 15:17, Thursday 5 February 2026
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8846718.
This damage is on the middle of the carriageway at a busy junction (London Road/Old High Street/Windwill Road). The root problem has existed for a number of years (at least 5) - the carriageway was damaged I suspect by a wheel rim of a heavy vehicle with a flat tyre. This made scraped a long (5-10m) gouge in the upper road surface. Initially this was not very wide maybe 1-2cm. Over the years the gouge has widened and deepened so that it is about 3-4 cm deep and over 15cm wide in places. It is increasing difficult to avoid the it safely in traffic. The worst part being going straight across London Road from the Old High Street side where the widest and deepest depression is on the safe line to avoid right turners in both directions. It is difficult to avoid taking a severe jolt as the bike goes in and out of the trench.
