Moving a road sign

Reported via mobile in the Sign Missing/Damaged category anonymously at 13:00, Wednesday 4 February 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8836834.

(Apologies if youve received two of these reports now, but i never got my email confirmation.) To whom it may concern,

I'm writing to you to seek guidance on how I could request, if at all possible, a road sign to be moved to a more suitable position.

I live at Aster Wood, Avebury Road, Orpington BR6 9SA. The sign I refer to is the 'Avebury Road' sign at the bottom of my drive, please see attached images.

The reason for my request as you maybe able to see, is that we are in fact at the bottom of the road next to a busy secondary school with a very heavy footfall of school children and indeed traffic picking up and dropping off children.

It goes without saying we are being as safe as possible, but having the sign where it is restricts maneuvering on and off of the drive. Though it looks like there is plenty of space to maneuver the double yellow lines directly opposite the drive constantly have people parked there during drop off and pick up. (Maybe one for your traffic warden teams to take up, itl certainly do me another favour).

I wonder whether it could be considered to move the sign further down, infront of the wooden fence so that you can see the road your turning into before actually being on the road it's self?

Please could you let me know if this is something you could help me with and if there would be any cost involved.

Kind regards

Matthew Barnard.
