Long term flooding problem over the road due to inadequate drainage pipe

The stream causing the flooding has increased in volume over the last years due to trees being felled and blocking the upper stream upstream and general increase in that waterway. The pipe for the stream to exit into the main flow by the bridge is too small in diameter ( seen in black in one photo). It blocks and can’t cope with the volume. This has gone on for 3-4 years. Deep potholes appear under the water across the road. in heavy rain, water reaches washbrook house gateway. We know the landowner and have contact details if you wish to approach them to improve the drainage and reduce damage to the highway. The whole area has a huge build up of gravel/ mud- causing bumps and potholes. It needs scraping back and a total resurface & drainage . It’s busy traffic here especially during A417 works.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.
Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.
