Pothole peril 😱😱😱

Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 15:20, Thursday 29 January 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8796082.

This is a perilous long stretch with several big potholes in a row. One after another, they present real risk to cars, vans and motorcycles. A big risk of damage to tyres, wheels, and even to people. They are part of a long stretch of approx 100 metres which has never been properly repaired in at least 15 years. The photos, which I have marked up with red circles (hardly necessary because the potholes are so large!) are at OX5 3AA, just a few metres south of the small turn off to the “Failed Road”.

A few metres south of this collection of potholes is another, very large pothole, which I reported recently but remains unrepaired and getting bigger daily. It now extends across half the road! See second photo attached.

Unless the council does a PROPER repair, not just occasional patching which quickly fails, it will end up costing the council - or its insurers - far more money in compensation, damages, etc. It’s an egregious failure to repair and breach of the council’s statutory duty to repair. The holes should be properly filled and the road then resurfaced for about 100m. It will be cheaper for the council in the long run, quite apart from being safer for traffic.

  • Nearly big enough to move into now!

  • It is more than two months since I reported this hazardous series of potholes, some of which are very large. It is disgraceful that the council has failed to carry out repairs and it is undoubtedly a breach of its statutory duties. When accidents and damage happen, as they will, the liability will rest fully on the council. Its officers and elected members should be ashamed.
