18 inch long pothole on the A361 near the Fox & Hounds Pub
Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category by Gary Child at 07:48, Wednesday 28 January 2026
Sent to West Northamptonshire Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8783677.
This is one of two new potholes that have opened up on the A361 in Charwelton. This is a major ongoing problem mainly caused due to the high level of HS2 HGVs and other large vehicles using this route. Large vehicles but mainly HGVs cannot avoid these potholes and most do not slow down in an attempt to miss them. As this road is prone to some level of flooding these fill with water and are not always visible. This particular large pothole causes considerable noise and vibration in mine and others properties and has caused damage to vehicles.

There is a terrible vibration in the house when any lorry, hits these pot holes. The vibration throughout the house wakes us up at night in a panic. From the creaking noise in the roof I wouldn't be surprised if some structural damage is taking place. These 2No pot holes need filling in ASAP before damage is done to any of the adjacent properties and to allow us to sleep through the night without waking up thinking the roof is about to collapse.

I just hope that the vibrations caused by large vehicles hitting this pot hole has not caused any structural damage to my house. The sounds from the roof trusses moving does make me feel that potential damage could be done. How long do we have to wait to get this resolved?

I contacted the urgent phone line yesterday as there was a crew in the village repairing other potholes, in an attempt to get this repair expedited. I was told that as these two potholes had not yet been inspected/assessed this wasn’t possible. With the high level of HS2 traffic passing through the village, these potholes are already degrading further and will continue to do so. The rate and speed of these hgv’s is causing significant noise and vibration in the adjacent properties which will only get more severe. As a matter of urgency can you please inspect and repair these potholes asap.

A further update!! These two reported potholes have now become three potholes.. The current large pothole already causes significant shaking to the adjacent properties. However these current slightly small two potholes in a very short time will become joined and form an even larger pothole than other one as the tarmac between the two is already breaking up (see photos). Once this occurs the noise and building vibrations will become severe with the potential of causing structural damage. Please inspect and schedule these repairs as a matter of high priority..
