Verge has collapsed, tarmac has disintegrated for a stretch of c20 metres

Reported via desktop anonymously at 13:13, Sunday 25 January 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8763049.

The tarmac and verge along the Roke road (OX10 6JD) have disintegrated, making the tarmac area now much narrower and only allowing a single lane of traffic. The tarmac edge is all jagged and there is a fair drop into the water-filled hole which stretches for c20 metres along the road. The grass verge has receded quite a way from the hedge so also needed to be re-instated. NOTE: There is a Gigaclear cable not far below the surface all along that side of the road, so any repair work needs to take this into account. The Gigaclear broadband was cut off for well over a week a couple of years ago when a digger cut through the cabling a little further down the road.

  • This section of road is getting worse by the day with the tarmac crumbling and now the Gigaclear broadband cabling is sticking through the verge at several points.
