Extremely dangerous pothole

Reported via desktop in the A pothole in road category by Lauren Malcolm at 11:58, Tuesday 20 January 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8727322.

This complaint mirrors that of Ref 8632884, as my car as also been damaged as a result of a major pothole on this road.

On 15/12/2025 around 22:00, after turning into Mill Lane from Vicarage, my car hit a large pothole not visible due to weather conditions and darkness. As a result, my tyre was punctured beyond repair and required replacing prematurely.

This pothole is dangerous due to its depth and location on a busy road, where at least two cars have been damaged due to reports on this site. This stretch of road - Vicarage/Mill Lane intersection and into Mill Lane - is in a never-ending state of needing repair as is evident by the number of potholes and incidents that have been reported on this site. Yet considering the many "resolved" reports on this site over the last few years, I don't believe the road has ever been in a state of decency as long as I have lived in the area (2+ years). The report referenced above - Ref 8632884 - received a response that this will be investigated, and yet it is over a month since his report was made and there are no outlines around the potholes and no clear plan of action to get this stretch of road driveable again. This road is fairly busy, and I use it frequently, and I fear more repair costs coming my way if this is not sorted ASAP.

Please can this be looked into as a matter of urgency, since the previous report similar to mine that is over a month old, has not had the ability to action necessary repairs.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a pothole.

First, a safety inspector will visit the location to assess whether a repair needs to be completed and plan the work needed. Works are prioritised based on the urgency of the situation. The council aim to repair all significant potholes (more than 4cm deep and 30cm wide) within 28 days.

In some cases a temporary repair will be needed, to make the area safe, then engineers will return to make a permanent repair.

We will provide updates about this report.
