Alexandra st parking nightmare

Reported via mobile in the Car parking category anonymously at 17:30, Sunday 18 January 2026

Sent to Southend-on-Sea City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8715077.

My garage is located behind a small island/parking area in the road (as shown in the attached photograph). Many drivers mistakenly believe this island is a suitable parking space large enough for a vehicle. Unfortunately, when vehicles park there - even partially—it restricts or completely blocks access to my garage entrance as the island is not large enough to house even a small car as pictured. I have a young family with a new born which makes parking on my own property impossible.

This issue is an ongoing saga and is making my life hell. I’m paying for a property and garage that I can’t even access!

This also creates the following problems on a regular basis:

- Restricted and obstructed access: Vehicles parked on or overhanging the island make it extremely difficult, and often impossible, to safely manoeuvre my vehicle in or out of the garage (that I pay a lot of money for) without risking damage to my car, the obstructing vehicle, or nearby property. - Safety concerns: The limited space forces awkward reversing or turning manoeuvres onto the main road, increasing the risk of accidents, particularly when visibility is reduced or during busier times. This is especially dangerous for pedestrians or other road users. - Significant inconvenience: The issue occurs frequently, causing delays, frustration, and disruption to daily life. It prevents reliable use of my garage, which is my primary parking provision.

I have attached a recent photograph showing a vehicle parked in this location (it happens every day with a different car and is making our lives a living nightmare), illustrating how it encroaches on the access and narrows the available space to an unsafe degree.

I kindly request that the Council investigate this location and consider appropriate measures under a TRO, such as:

- Introducing double yellow lines across the island area to prohibit waiting/parking at all times. - Removing or redesigning the island if it is not intended as a formal parking space. - Any other restrictions or markings that would prevent vehicles from parking in a way that obstructs the garage entrance.

I would be grateful if you could acknowledge receipt of this letter and advise on the next steps, including any assessment process, consultation requirements, or additional information needed from me.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and am happy to provide further details, additional photos, or discuss the issue if required.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Poloski
