Obstruction caused by wall/building problem

Dear Ms Chidley,
I’m writing as chair of Bledington Parish Council in the hope that you may be able to offer some advice and support regarding the above public bridleways. The Parish Council has an objective of improving year-round accessibility along these rights of way.

The bridleways in question form an important route for walkers, horse riders, and cyclists into areas of heath and woodland for Bledington residents and visitors alike. They are mostly flanked by a strip of common land. They also form important routes of access for local farmers into their fields. Bridleway HBL 27 is a ‘BOAT’ and forms a protective bund to reduce flooding into the village.
Unfortunately, the surface is mostly in very poor condition and for 9 months of the year frequently inaccessible on foot and for cyclists.

At a recent site meeting with Rhodri Grey from Highways we briefly discussed the matter and he suggested making contact with you. He offered to work with you and the PC to explore any ways in which we could improve the surface and hence access.

    Should the issue pose an immediate danger to public safety such as:-
    •Objects on the highway network (i.e. a fallen tree)
    •Faulty temporary or permanent traffic lights (i.e. stuck on red)

  • This report has now been passed to the Highways team for assessment.

    If repair work is required, it will either be classed as urgent or will be put into a planned programme of works to ensure it is repaired as efficiently as possible.

    In some cases a temporary repair will be needed, to make the area safe, then engineers will return to make a permanent repair.

    An update on the issue will be provided.
