Water flowing out of ditch onto road

Reported via desktop in the Drainage category by Paul Baker at 13:39, Tuesday 13 January 2026

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8680081.

The road grips are allowing water to flow out of the ditch and onto the road causing traffic to have difficulty and create dangerous situations as vehicles try to pass through the water. It appears that the pipe under the road is blocked. It needs jetting…..

  • Today, once again, water has flowed out of the ditch and down Heath Lane. This is three times since this report was first made a week ago. The photo is from today. The ditch has never had its width and depth maintained in 37 years! It has silted up from fairway debris and road gravel. Also, the pipe under the road is at best blocked, and at worst inadequately sized when it was installed.

  • And again, the water has been flowing down the road today, Thursday, 22nd January. This is now four times in the last 8 days. Gravel and tree and hedge flailing debris is being washed down the carriageway and this is blocking the road drainage gullies, making the flow of water on the road worse. The main access hatch for jetting is at “SEDATED, IDEAL, REALM” what3words.

  • There is another rainy day due tomorrow 27th Jan. The pipe access cover at “SEDATED, IDEAL, REALM” what3words location has not yet been lifted, so I guess nobody knows if the pipe needs jetting. May be worth checking to avoid another flooded and dangerous road. This water should be being managed.

  • Once again, today, 27th January, there is water flowing onto the road(Heath Lane). The outflow from the lower end of the pipe appears to be less than full flow. This suggests that somewhere in the pipe there is an obstruction. There is at least one debris trap in the pipe, and a bend(which has previously had to be jetted). The access cover to the bend is at location “SEDATED, IDEAL, REALM” What3Words.

  • This access lid in the photo is the only access for jetting this pipe. It is clear from the debris in the gaps around the lid that the lid has not been lifted in recent months. Without lifting the lid it is almost impossible to tell if the pipe is blocked, so how does the council know if the problem of the blocked pipe is fixed. The pipe gets blocked just below this lid, as there is a bend below the lid. They certainly cannot jet the pipe at this point without lifting the lid.
