Overgrown hedge blocking footway along Bull Street, next to Manor Close

Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 12:04, Sunday 11 January 2026

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8665624.

This was reported in October, was recorded as action being taken with the landowner, but no enforcement has been made. It’s now not possible to walk past this hedge. The footway here is about 2m wide and it’s not possible to use any of it because of how the hedge has been allowed to grow. Any time it is cut back, it doesn’t go back to the highway boundary as they are legally obliged to.

  • Still hasn't been fixed and the pavement is unusable. Pushchairs/prams now have to go into the middle of the road, as there is no pavement on the other side.

  • There used to be the same problem the other side of the entrance to Manor Close. Enforcement was threatened and the property owners replaced the overgrown hedge with a fence. The same needs to happen here. It’s not acceptable to co-opt public space for a private hedge. If you want a big hedge, grow it on your own property, not the public highway.
