Damaged road surface

Reported via iOS in the Pothole category anonymously at 12:13, Friday 9 January 2026

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 8656213.

I have been reporting this issue for several years. This sweeping bend has significant road surface damage. The coloured tarmac has eroded, and the road surface is breaking up and becoming uneven. The surface is splitting, and regular flooding occurs because the surface drain cannot cope with any significant volume of water.

The tarmac surrounding the surface drain has eroded and is developing into a pothole. On a section of road with blind bends and a 40 mph speed limit, the broken surface creates serious traction issues in both directions of travel. Conditions are particularly hazardous in wet weather due to flooding, and even more dangerous in icy conditions.

The increasing pooling of water is accelerating the deterioration of the road surface, further compounding the safety risk.

  • “No further action” is not acceptable.

While the council may choose not to address the wider cracking and surface deterioration on this section of road, the loss of tarmac surrounding the surface drain cover cannot be ignored. This has developed into a pothole with a sharp edge.

The ongoing flooding around this drain is a significant contributing factor to the erosion of the surrounding carriageway and is accelerating the deterioration of the road surface.

This is a 40 mph road with blind bends in both directions. The uneven surface, standing water, and damaged area around the drain present a clear safety risk, particularly in wet or icy conditions where traction is reduced.

I travel along this section of road twice daily, and the condition has now deteriorated to the point where my tyres are being clipped and my suspension is being impacted.

This defect meets the definition of a pothole and should be inspected and repaired accordingly before it worsens or results in vehicle damage or injury.

  • This just keeps getting worse as a pothole has formed between the surface drain and the centre white line. You move your vehicle to avoid the hole around the drain, only to end up clipping this hole. This section of road is thumping my suspension and whacking my tyres every single day!

  • I am writing to urgently request repairs to at least two significant potholes at this location.

Every morning during my commute, my vehicle is being heavily jolted when passing through this section of road, and I am increasingly concerned about tyre and alloy wheel damage. The condition of the road surface has deteriorated to the point where avoiding these defects is extremely difficult without creating a hazard for other road users.

These potholes and surrounding cracks are clearly worsening and will continue to deteriorate if not addressed promptly. I have previously reported issues at this location, yet the defects remain and now require urgent attention.

This route is the safest and most direct road between Fleet and Hartley Witney for my daily commute, meaning avoiding the damaged section is not realistically possible.
