A pothole in road problem
Reported in the A pothole in road category by Gloucestershire County Council at 10:55, Wed 17 December 2025
FixMyStreet ref: 8632884.
I am writing to formally complain about the dangerous condition of Mill Lane in Brockworth and to request compensation for damage caused to my vehicle due to a pothole on this road.
On 15/12/25 approximately at 16:30, while driving along Mill Lane, my vehicle struck a large pothole which was not visible due to it being dark and raining at the time. As a direct result, my tyre was punctured and required repair/replacement, causing unexpected expense and inconvenience.
The pothole presents a serious hazard to road users. Given the weather conditions and poor visibility, there was no reasonable opportunity to avoid it. This situation highlights a failure to properly maintain the road surface and ensure it is safe for public use.
As the authority responsible for maintaining this road, you have a duty of care to ensure highways are kept in a safe condition. The damage to my vehicle was entirely avoidable had the road been adequately inspected and maintained. The current state of the road is unacceptable and poses a continued risk to others.
I am therefore requesting compensation for the cost of repairing my tyre and confirmation that this section of road will be inspected and repaired as a matter of urgency. I can provide photographs, receipts, and any additional information required to support my claim.
I look forward to your response and a prompt resolution to this matter.
Regards
Joel

This pothole report has now been passed to the Safety Inspection Team for assessment.
A safety inspector will make an assessment of the work needed and they will consider a number of factors, including the flow of traffic and the size of the pothole.
If repair work is required, the pothole will either be classed as urgent or will be put into a planned programme of works to ensure it is repaired as efficiently as possible. We aim to complete the repair work within 28 days.
In some cases a temporary repair will be needed, to make the area safe, then engineers will return to make a permanent repair.
An update on the outcome of the safety inspection will be provided.
